Our story
From El Salvador's Bitcoin standard to Hong Kong
The Whale Lounge started life in Berlin, El Salvador, a mountain town where Bitcoin circulates like cash. Living and working under the Bitcoin standard during the world's first national adoption, we saw firsthand what it takes for a community to actually run on sound money: the wallets, the merchants, the education, and the patience.
We brought those lessons to Hong Kong. Today The Whale Lounge is a Bitcoin-only store and education hub: expert-vetted hardware, hands-on courses, and a growing circular economy. Together with the Bitcoin Association of Hong Kong, we power HK Bitcoin City, the pilot program building Hong Kong's first wave of Bitcoin-accepting merchants.

Gaëlle Wizenberg
Gaëlle founded The Whale Lounge after years of living on the Bitcoin standard in El Salvador, where she watched a national experiment become daily life. She has advised individuals, founders, and institutions on Bitcoin adoption, from first wallets to corporate treasury and custody strategy, and hosts conversations with Bitcoiners around the world on The Bitcoin Expats podcast.
Her approach is simple: education before sales, self-custody before convenience, and Bitcoin only. If you are curious, she will meet you exactly where you are, and orange-pill you one honest conversation at a time.
